via Instagram Coastal erosion and coastal flooding is a problem affecting many parts of the world, and with climate change, it looks like this trend is only going to accelerate.
In Lagos, we took steps to tackle this issue nearly 15 years ago to save Victoria Island which was under an imminent threat of severe flooding and erosion, and currently looking at cost effective solutions with the State on how to tackle this issue in areas still at risk.
The article below covers the issue and the cost in the US: “The center recently issued a study concluding that by 2040, building sea walls for storm surge protection for U.S. coastal cities with more than 25,000 residents will require at least $42 billion. Expand that to include communities under 25,000 people and the cost skyrockets to $400 billion.”
